How to Prepare an Aluminium Surface for Welding

A great weld starts with preparation. A poorly prepared metal surface can cause defects in the weld that make it weak. Aluminium surfaces need to be prepared differently to regular steel to ensure the integrity of the weld. Follow this simple tip for a strong aluminium weld.

Use a stainless steel abrasive, such as a PFERD wire brush, iron free grinding disc or stainless steel wool to clean the surface thoroughly. Ensure that this abrasive has not been used on any other metal to avoid contamination.

Remember, the more effort you put into your preparation, the cleaner and stronger the end result will be.
